For Immediate Release
The Monterey Peninsula Airport District unveiled its new baggage claim area at a ribbon cutting event on Thursday, January 25th, sponsored by the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. This is the third phase completed in the $9 million airport terminal modernization project. Previous phases completed were the Golden Tee Restaurant which opened December 22, 2006 and the relocation of all airline ticket counters to the east end of the terminal.
The new baggage claim is located on the west end of the terminal. It features an automated baggage belt, Monterey County themed wall murals and new airport advertising displays.
This phase completes the seismic retrofitting of the modernization project. Future phases include new centralized security screening and improved passenger boarding areas. Funding for this project was provided by FAA Grants and District funds. The project will be completed in August 2007.
Monterey Peninsula Airport has convenient service by four airlines ~ American Eagle, the Delta Connection, United Express and US Airways Express ~ to six gateway cities: Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and San Francisco. In 2006, over 412,000 passengers traveled through the Monterey Peninsula Airport.
