Monterey Regional Airport’s Permanent Long-Term Parking Lot to Open in Phases
Relocated Long-Term Parking Lot Opens June 15 and Designed to Accommodate MRY’s Passenger Growth
MONTEREY, CA, June 12, 2026 – Progress continues on the Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) Safety Enhancement Program, also known as the MRY Metamorphosis, with a phased opening of the permanent Long-Term Parking Lot to begin on June 15, 2026. Just in time for peak summer travel, the new lot will provide convenient parking to extended-stay travelers flying from MRY’s current terminal and future replacement terminal when it becomes operational in summer 2027. “The MRY Metamorphosis is progressing and the opening of the permanent Long-Term Parking Lot is the first opportunity for passengers to experience modern facilities and services that are positively transforming the travel experience through convenience and efficiency,” said Monterey Regional Airport Executive Director Chris Morello.
Limited shuttle service between the Long-Term lot and terminal will be available during peak flight periods to travelers needing extra assistance. A pathway will also be clearly marked in the lot for customers transitioning between the lot and terminal.
The Long-Term lot entrance will be temporarily located approximately 200 feet from Highway 68 while construction continues on the permanent entry point, which is part of the adjacent roadway system construction project. Signage on Olmsted Road, the airport’s primary access roadway, will guide travelers to the lot entrance.
Airport personnel will be onsite and available for the first few days of the lot opening to answer customer questions.
Parking rates in the new Long-Term lot will remain the same through June 30. Rates will increase, in accordance with a Monterey Peninsula Airport District Board of Directors resolution, beginning July 1, 2026, as follows:
- First 10 minutes free, for those that may enter the lot inadvertently
- $1.00 per hour for the first three hours on Day 1, and
- $20.00 per day after three hours
The new Long-Term lot will be fully automated, allowing customers to pay with a credit or debit card from their vehicle at the lot exit.
Construction continues in the Long-Term lot and parking sections and spaces will open in phases. Customers are asked to follow all vehicle and pedestrian wayfinding markings and signage. Areas marked as unavailable should not be used.
“We appreciate and thank our travelers for their patience during the phased opening of the Long-Term Parking Lot and while construction continues in the lot and on airport roadways,” Morello added.
The lot will be well lighted for the safety and security of travelers and their vehicles, using sustainable solar lighting. Landscaping will include native trees irrigated with recycled water.
The interim Long-Term lot entrance will close on June 15, with the exit remaining open for up to 30 days for vehicles parked in the lot until all spaces are vacated.
The new lot is designed to accommodate the airport’s growing number of travelers. MRY now offers nonstop flights and more seats to where passengers want to travel most, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, and Phoenix.
