The Big Sur Marathon Foundation is proud to produce two world-class running events on the Central Coast of California each year. The Big Sur International Marathon, now in its 35th year, is held annually on the last Sunday in April and runs from Big Sur to Carmel, California. Roughly 10,000 participants from all 50 states and nearly 40 countries travel to the Monterey Peninsula to take part in this bucket-list event each year, which runs along Highway 1 and across the famed Bixby Creek Bridge. Registration drawings for this popular event open mid-July.

The Monterey Bay Half Marathon, held on the second Sunday in November, plays host to over 8,000 runners on a fast and flat course that runs through Downtown Monterey, along Steinbeck’s Cannery Row, and next to the beautiful Pacific Grove shoreline. The course features scenic views of waves crashing on rocky beaches, beautiful Victorian-era homes, and frequent sightings of aquatic life. Registration is now open for the November 10, 2019 race.

The Big Sur Marathon Foundation relies on the help, time, and enthusiasm of nearly 4,000 volunteers from regional nonprofit groups to make these events possible each year. Since 1986, the Big Sur Marathon Foundation has donated over $5 million to the local community in the form of grants to these local nonprofit groups.
