MONTEREY, CA, July 29, 2021 - Avelo Airlines, inspiring travel through everyday low fares, is expanding across California with new nonstop service connecting the Central Coast to Los Angeles.

Starting September 30, Avelo will fly direct between Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) and LA’s most convenient and popular airport — Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR) — two times per week. Avelo will be the only scheduled carrier offering nonstop flights between MRY and BUR. One-way fares starting at $39* can be booked at aveloair.com.

“We are looking forward to bringing more choice, affordability and the Avelo Soul of Service to Monterey,” said Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy. “With this new nonstop service, the Central Coast now has direct access to everything that LA has to offer through the region’s most convenient and relaxing airport. Southern California has never been easier or more affordable to reach.”

Situated in the heart of Southern California, BUR is surrounded by LA’s world-famous beaches, dining, entertainment, shopping and sun-soaked outdoor recreation. Whether Customers are departing or arriving, BUR offers a refreshingly convenient and hassle-free experience. Named the 2019 “Best U.S. Airport” by Fodor’s Travel, BUR features include seamless curbside pickup and drop-off, smaller crowds, unrivaled speed for plane-to-carousel bag delivery, faster TSA security lines, and short walking distances between the terminal and ground transportation, parking and rental cars (instead of the time-consuming shuttles and trains necessary at larger airports). All of this makes BUR the ultra-convenient, stress-free gateway to LA.

“We are excited to welcome Avelo to Monterey as our new air service partner. The Avelo model of affordability will help us reach another segment of our growing air service market and provide convenient access to the LA Basin for our travelers. We are confident the Monterey region will respond well to this new opportunity and look forward to welcoming new visitors from the LA area to our region and the wonderful communities that make up the Monterey Peninsula,” said MRY Executive Director Michael La Pier.

“We are thrilled to welcome this new flight to and from the LA area, as Carmel-by-the-Sea has a long history of being a popular getaway amongst our Southern California neighbors and vice versa,” said Visit Carmel Executive Director Amy Herzog. “The convenience of both BUR and MRY are going to be very attractive to travelers.”

The route will be served by 189-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft, one of the most fuel-efficient commercial aircraft in the world, providing Customers with a large, comfortable cabin with more room, more seats and more seating options than the regional aircraft typically serving MRY. Avelo aircraft feature 60 seats with up to 9 inches of extra legroom starting at $11.

“This new air service comes at a very advantageous time,” said Monterey County Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Rob O’Keefe. “We’re seeing more travelers returning to the convenience of air travel and the greater Los Angeles area is a key feeder market.”

“Los Angeles has started its comeback, and we are inviting visitors to safely and responsibly start their comeback to LA,” said Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board Chief Marketing Officer Don Skeoch. “Avelo’s new service coincides with our national advertising campaign, and we hope visitors from our important feeder markets – newly serviced by Avelo – will find it even easier to experience all LA has to offer.”
