MONTEREY, CA, August 1, 2022 – Monterey Regional Airport (MRY) is thrilled to announce the opening of its Outdoor Courtyard, an open-air space for passengers to enjoy while waiting to board their flights. The Airport’s Outdoor Courtyard is located at Gate 1 of the terminal building, past the TSA Security Checkpoint, and is available for any passengers flying out of MRY.

The Outdoor Courtyard at Gate 1 is filled with plenty of comfortable seating and offers scenic views of the runway and the surrounding area, including the Monterey Bay. The Courtyard is a wonderful extension of the Airport’s current passenger holding rooms and provides a perfect space for those who prefer to wait outside. There is also a pet relief area for travelers with furry companions.

“We are excited to welcome passengers to our new Gate 1 outdoor experience,” states Monterey Regional Airport Executive Director Michael La Pier. “Very few airports offer the opportunity to enjoy outdoor seating past security, however this Courtyard will give our visitors and travelers the chance to enjoy our climate for a bit longer before they board their flight. And you can’t beat the views of the Monterey Bay.”

With the Gate 1 area previously being unoccupied and underutilized, the team at Monterey Regional Airport put significant effort towards the rejuvenation of the space. The Outdoor Courtyard now provides a unique setting for passengers to read, relax, work or simply soak in their last bit of ocean air before their departure.

The Outdoor Courtyard at Gate 1 is currently open, and Airport staff encourages all travelers to enjoy the new space the next time they fly out of MRY. Passengers are encouraged to continue to monitor the status of their flight (www.montereyairport.com/flight-status) while utilizing the space to ensure on-time boarding.
